F.A.S.T.
Year One
Summer Nationals
The F.A.S.T. Year One Summer Nationals was held again at Beaver Springs Dragway in conjunction with the York Reunion / Nostalgia Nationals. Year One sponsored this event allowing all F.A.S.T. and Factory Stock racers to enter and race for free. THANK YOU, YEAR ONE! Year One is the Summer Nationals event sponsor and long time supporter of F.A.S.T. racing, please tell them you appreciate their support of F.A.S.T. events the next time you order parts from them.
Saturday was an all day test and tune session. BSD (Beaver Springs Dragway) had an calculated elevation of 3500ft on Saturday, prodding some racers to make some carb jetting changes. Every track is different and driving style sometimes need adjustment for various track conditions, that what makes F.A.S.T. and F/S racing a drivers game and not just about horsepower.
Sunday, raceday was a little cooler and had better air than on Saturday. Sunday morning saw Greg Gessler (F.A.S.T. Tech person) inspect all F.A.S.T. and F/S cars. Two qualifying sessions were run for the F.A.S.T. and F/S racers. The first session was the quicker of the two as the air temps were a little cooler. After qualifying, Don Giannone from Lansdale, PA was sitting pretty in the number 1 F.A.S.T. spot with an 11.56 at 125.38 run. Ted Daras nabbed to Factory Stocks number 1 spot with his 13.19 109.80 blast. Ted a Volunteer firefighter (Chief) hails from Croton Falls, NY. Ted has a beautiful 1970 Chevelle SS 454 4 speed car with a stunning blue paint job. A great looking car from any angle! The Beaver track crew prepped the track before the second round of F.A.S.T. qualifying. Spraying and adding rosin to the starting line. Chris Kuskowski made the trek from Ausonia, Connecticut. Chris's 1972 340 Duster sports a single 4bbl carb, look for this car to break into the 11's this fall. Chris was able to run an 12.19, about a tenth off his best ever at BSD which is known to be slower than the faster sea level tracks.
At 2:00 the track played the Nation Anthem and racing began with the nostalgia race class. Two pairs of cars made it down the track when the rains came, racers headed for their trailers to keep dry. It rained for about 20 minutes and the skies started to clear, the sun came out and with the help of the BSD track crew the track was dried. The racers were called back to the staging lanes, but before they could start the clouds rolled back in and it started to drizzle again. This cycle happened over and over, mother nature was teasing us. Unfortunately at 5:30 the rains came and did not stop, the event was called and many a disappointed racer and race fan packed up to go home. This was the first National F.A.S.T. event that was rained out completely. In our 8 years, we have had rain but we could always get the racing in. Hopefully we can go another 8 years before this happens again.
Year One, Extrude Hone, Jet Hot, Torque Tech and NPD had generously donated gift certificates and prizes for the racers in the F.A.S.T. and F/S classes. It was decided that the gift certificates would be awarded by using the qualifying order. Each Quick-8 racer in both F.A.S.T. and F/S received a $100.00 Year One gift certificate and the number one qualifiers received an additional $300.00 each and the number 2 qualifies received and additional $150.00 each. Names were drawn out of a hat for the other prizes. Everyone went home with a gift certificate and at least one additional prize.
Thank you to our fine sponsors for sponsoring our racers! The next time you purchase parts from one of our sponsors make sure that you tell them that you really appreciate their support of our F.A.S.T. racing series.
