2007 Year-One F.A.S.T.
Eaton Fall Nationals
The Year One F.A.S.T. Fall Nationals was held at Virginia Motorsports Park in Petersburg, Virginia on October 12/13th 2007. This was the first time FAST has raced at VMP. VMP should attract more cars from the south to the events. VMP is a first class facility with ample paved pit space and long shutdown area. Traction was very good at this event as noted by several racers posting personal best ET's. October 12th Friday was an all day qualifying session. Each cars best ET would place them in the qualification ladder for Saturdays racing. Weather was perfect with no rain in sight! The Heavy hitters showed up to do battle on the 1/4 mile. Dave Dudek brought his 10 second Hemi Roadrunner and Terry Pennington had his 10 second L88 Corvette. This was sure to be the battle of all battles. Dave's Hemi was running consistent 10.70-80's all day long. Terry's Vette had problems from the start and due to engine problems had to bow out of competition before any good runs could be made. This left Dave's Roadrunner as the only car in the 10's and the rest of the quick 8 cars ranged from 11.10's to 11.50's.
First round in Quick-8 had an upset with #3 Ralph Barbagallo and #6 Ed Cook, Ed took the win with a superior reaction time, winning with an 11.32 to Ralph's 11.31. Second round was Steve Hodges and Ed Cook, Steve took the win with an 11.17. The other pairing was Dave Dudek and Greg Gessler. Dave and Greg have lined up next to each other many times in the past and it always makes for an exciting race. Greg got a massive holeshot on Dave's Hemi, due to a better reaction time and a stellar 1.69 60ft time. For a second or two it looked like Greg might pull off a huge upset. But it was not meant to be, Dave's Hemi caught the Buick and passed him at the 1000 ft mark. The 8 MPH topend advantage to the Hemi was just too much for the Buick to fend off.
Final round was all Hemi. Dave put together a great run 10.77 @ 131.61 to take the win against Steve Hodges 11.18 @ 127.08. Dave's Roadrunner is a force to be reckoned with, makes great HP and also gets off the line efficiently and consistently.
