2001 YEAR ONE BRISTOL BASH
INVITATIONAL F.A.S.T. RACE
This is how it all began.....
F.A.S.T. officially started the weekend of October 20th and 21st 2001, when Year One (supplier of muscle car restoration parts) invited 8 of the fastest stock appearing muscle cars from around the country to participate at their first Bristol Bash in Bristol Tennessee.
The 'Stock Appearing' movement gained interest when Musclecar Review published the results of a match race between the two fastest Stock appearing cars in the country. Phil Brewer's 396 Nova verses the 426 Hemi of Dave Dudek Jr. I n a best of 3 shootout Dave's Hemi won the race and posted low ET of 11.97. This was on bias-ply tires and in 2000 those kind of times were unheard of. This was the race that got the ball rolling.
The Bristol Bash F.A.S.T. rules were simple, heads up 1/4 mile drag racing on normal non-sticky street tires, cars must look and sound stock. The 1970 Buick of John Chamberlain was not able to attend the event, so the race was run with 7 cars. A full 'bracket' tree was used for this event. Little did we know at the time that F.A.S.T. would progress to where it is today. During Sunday mornings time trials 3 cars broke in the 11's, Dave Dudek - 11.92, Greg Gessler - 11.96 and Dan Jensen - 11.98. This race is fondly remembered by all those that participated.
