2004 COLUMBUS, OHIO - F.A.S.T. RACE

The second 2004 F.A.S.T. race was held at the National Trails raceway park in Columbus, Ohio. This race was run in conjunction with the Mopar Nationals. Needless to say there were a lot of Mopars in attendance!

THANKS to our good friends at Year One, we were invited to race in our own special class at the 2004 Mopar Nationals in Columbus, Ohio. We would like to THANK Keith Maney, Pat Stanton, and the rest of the Year One staff for the VIP treatment in the pits as well as the tower! Also, THANKS to Chuck West and the American Musclecar TV crew for recording our runs! Watch for us on TV in the near future!

With the event's attendance in the 55,000 we got some positive exposure! All those who visited out Year One pit area gave us all rave reviews! We hope to have won over MANY new fans, and hopefully this will translate into NEW racers for F.A.S.T. as well!!! We know of a couple of new cars that will be joining us in the 2005 season! This Year One F.A.S.T. Series invitation was open to all makes that participate in F.A.S.T. even though its in the heart of Mopar country! Pat Wendling was the only non-Chrysler entry that could attend the event. Pat was received graciously by the Mopar crowd. Especially with his 11 second runs with the left front tire in the air!

Congratulations to Joel Nystrom taking his first F.A.S.T. win!! There were over 10 cars running in the 11's making for some good close racing.

Dave Dudek recorded a 11.24 @ 127.3 mph pass for #1 qualifying spot, followed closely by Jack Irons, Hemi Roadrunner turning a 11.53 @ 125 for #2. Of the 15 cars that entered, at least 13 were in the 11's!!!
Dave Dudek Sr.'s Hemi GTX and Joel Nystrom's Hemi 1967 GTX were running in the 11.50 range! Tom Cannon's Challenger T/A and Pete Skalba's 1970 Hemi Roadrunner ( Mike Wowk's former car ) were both in the 11.70's!! Pat Wendling and Kevin Haranczak were running 11.90's! Jim Goode's Max Wedge and Steve Hodges Hemi Challenger were in the 12.20's. We had a newcomer to F.A.S.T. with "RapidTransit" Ralph and his 383 Challenger SE. But we couldn't watch Ralph run his new car as he SOLD IT Saturday!!!
Of course, this wasn't done without some drama in the pits. Tom Cannon was running 11.70's with his small block stroker 340 T/A and he destroyed the center section of his 8 3/4 housing. Luckily, there is a LARGE swap meet section at the Nationals, so Tom bought a used center section and he was back in business! Steve Hodges brought out his rebuilt Hemi Challenger and suffered some teething problems as well. Steve's Hemi managed to chew up its clutch and pressure plate. But the F.A.S.T. guys all pitched in and helped the two broken racers return to action!
In the final round, we found Joel Nystrom matched up against Dave Dudek. Hemi vs. Hemi. Joel was working magic on the tree all day, and it paid off here in the Finals. Joel cut a .074 RT to Dave's .207 RT and he kept the lead from stripe to stripe! Joel's 11.57 bested Dave's 11.48 for the win!

See any AIR under the tire?

Who says you can't "hook" on bias ply tires?
