Original 440 Six-Pak Roadrunner
(Quote Scott McKenzie:)
Well i got into the hobby around 1985 restoring a 1970 road runner conv. then after 13 years of showing that car i sold it. Then i bought a 1969 GTX 440 4 speed 410 dana the car was sweet. Showed that for a couple of years and sold that car as well. I always wanted a HEMI OR SIX PACK car and in 2005 this original M code lift off hood car was for sale out of Canada. Sold new out of California the car was solid but does not have the original engine. The car was restored in 1994 and touched up over the years but still looks good. Deluxe interior, automatic console and am/fm radio are some of the options. Trans is stock and all lift off cars came standard 410 dana rear ends 11" drum brakes at all 4.
How I got involved with F.A.S.T.: I thought this car was the fastest car I have ever owned and I wanted to see what kind of time it would run. There was a mopar show and go at lebanon and I thought I would go and take a pass down the track.. I never raced down a 1/4 mile track before. After my first pass 13.20 @ 103 the blood was flowing. As I was going thru the pits to go back to the show area this guy (Ralph Barbagallo) came up to me and asked if I wanted to race with them and I asked how much money will it cost and he said zero just put F.A.S.T. on your window.
The next F.A.S.T. race was at muscle polooza and the ETs started getting better and better after each race. The stock engine was running 13.0s, 12.90s, 12.80s and the best was in November 12.75 @ 106. Then it was time to go faster. In the summer of 06 I started talking to different people and seeing what kind of combo's they were running. I was really amazed with the pure stock guys running low 12s high 11s and that was what I wanted.. So at the mopar nats Aug.06 I started talking with Bob Karakashian (MR.SIX PACK) and he said he could build me a high 11s 440 wedge no problem.
The engine went into the works. Bob built me a brand new crate motor intake to pan all I had to do was put on exhaust manifolds, paint and swap out the old engine for the new. First time out first run 12.16 @ 115. Best to date 11.76 @ 116.45 with a 1.75 60' time. Not to bad for a 440ci stock stroke. |
