Frank Remlinger's
1969 Dodge 340 gts

Frank purchased the (1 of 2,670) 340 GTS in 1996. A full rebuild was in order, the car was dismantled down to the bare shell. The body was media blasted, removing three prior paint jobs. The original B5 Bright Blue Metallic paint was applied to the body work and a new interior was installed using the correct B3 Light Blue door panels and seat covers. Just like most 25 year old muscle cars, the original engine was long gone and had a 360 CID engine sitting between the fenders. Frank located a correct 340 engine and rebuilt it with .040" over TRW cast pistons and a M/P cam. The cast iron intake, exhaust manifolds and Carter AVS carb came from a 340 Swinger.

The 340 GTS is a regular at PSMCDR (Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Races) and F.A.S.T. racing events. His first race was at the 2001 PSMCDR running low 15's with 3.55 rear gears. With a new cam, 3.91 gears and careful tuning, Frank whittled the ET down to 14.65 @ 97 MPH. During 2004, the 340 wiped 3 cam lobes, so it was time to build a better 340. In 2005 the GTS had a new .020" over 340 engine with his old heads, intake and exhaust manifolds. At the F.A.S.T. US-131 Race, Frank ran a 13.99, but later found out that the new cam also had several cam lobes go bad.
Frank told us about his latest engine:
"The 340 came out that next week (June 2005) and was cleaned, honed, new bearings, new rings, and another brand of cam.  All work was performed by Automotive Machine in Fraser, MI.  With the “new” engine and cam I debuted at the 2005 PSMCDR running a best of 13.89 @ 100.1 mph with 2.02 60’ times.  I ran the car at Milan Dragway in October 2005 in their weekend bracket event.  I ran a best of 13.77 @ 100 .17 mph (35-40mph head winds that day!!!!) with a best 60’ of 1.98 and I pulled a .002 and a .003 reaction time.  I went three rounds in my first attempt at bracket racing.  I earned a “bye” run with my .002 light for the second round!  One more round and I would have started winning some money!!"
