2004 MORROCO, INDIANA - F.A.S.T. RACE

The first 2004 F.A.S.T. race was held on Friday May 11th at US-41 Racetrack in Morroco, Indiana. It was an interesting day at US-41, the weather was almost the deciding factor. High winds, thunderstorms, and driving rain is what the racers woke up to on Friday morning! The track opening was delayed for a couple of hours, but luckily the rain stopped, and the high winds helped dry out the track in short time. We had an abbreviated field for the opening F.A.S.T.- F/S race due to it's early calendar date. Along with the weather, the track conditions were not up to par so no new records were broken at this event. According to Dave Heilala ( 1968 Olds RamRod W-31 ), the right lane was the smoothest but it was the greasiest. The left lane had the best grip, but it was like driving across a corn field! Even though YEAR ONE had stepped up and offered a $1000 reward to the first F.A.S.T. racer to break into the 10's, it just wasn't in the cards that day. This was a new track for the F.A.S.T. series. Congratulations to Terry Pennington for taking the win and creating a new low-ET record of 11.24! Tom Cannon was awarded with the F.A.S.T.est small block running an 11.98 at 117.88 MPH!

Due to the small field it was decided by the F.A.S.T. Committee at the driver's meeting to run the F.A.S.T. Four, and the rest of the field would run in the "Best 2 out of 3" mini shoot-out format. Here are the pairings with results! Oddly enough, every round-except one-was decided in two straight rounds! Of note, Dave Dudek Sr., Steve Hodges, Brian Stefina, and Scott Pennington were not able to make the final rounds due to mechanical problems. Also, Mike Wowk withdrew his Hemi RoadRunner after the first round against Jim Goode. Jim then ran against Rob Clary who had an "bye" round. As you can see, it is more about driving time, and having fun than it is to run for competition sake alone. This is what helps make F.A.S.T. Racing so popular with the drivers and fans!
