2002 YEAR ONE BRISTOL BASH - F.A.S.T. RACE

The 2002 Bristol Bash F.A.S.T. race was held on October 19th and 20th 2002, and unlike the inaugural 2001 event this F.A.S.T. race was opened up to all participants that met the F.A.S.T. rules. Year One expanded its annual event to not only cater to racers and muscle car owners, but also to make the Bristol Bash a family oriented event. Normally a 2 day event with F.A.S.T. qualifying on Saturday and F.A.S.T. eliminations on Sunday, a stormy forecast for Sunday prompted Year One to condense the F.A.S.T. program to enable its completion on Saturday. This proved to be a good decision, because the rains came all day Sunday.
Hotrod TV was on hand to film the F.A.S.T. race for a 1/2 hour Hotrod TV episode. Racers were interviewed to get a behind the scenes look at the new and growing F.A.S.T. class. If you can get a copy of this production it is well worth the effort, as it is a excellent and exciting production.
F.A.S.T. cars became even more powerful and further reduced their ET's. Joel Nystrom worked his way thru the F.A.S.T. field to the final round with his 4 speed Hemi GTX, Again, for the third straight race it was Hemi vs Buick in the final round. Greg picked up some more horsepower from his GS and also work his way thru the F.A.S.T. field to the finals. The two cars staged, the lights flashed and in an instant the Buick was 2 car lengths ahead of the Hemi, the GTX Hemi fought back with its superior MPH and started to catch up to the GS, but the race track was to short for that. The Buick crossed the finish line first 11.87 to 11.99. The first F.A.S.T. final with side by side 11 second passes. For the second year in a row, Greg Gessler won the Year One Bristol Bash F.A.S.T. race.
